Having withstood some relentless pressure from the Reds in the first 10 minutes at St Helens Stadium, we broke the deadlock just four minutes before the break, albeit with some luck as Signe Gaupset’s cross took a huge deflection to find the back of the net.

Gareth Taylor’s side headed into the game on the back off an impressive 4-0 victory over Charlton Athletic last weekend and they fought back level just before the hour mark as Aureille Csillag headed home.

We both had opportunities to grab the winner in the closing stages – Liverpool would feel more hard done by after some fantastic saves from Lize Kop – but we settled for a point on Merseyside, showcasing a different type of performance than we saw against West Ham United.

“We weren't at our best,” Martin Ho told us, speaking to SPURSPLAY after the game. “We had some rhythm, we had some moments. I thought we defended very well in the first half; they maybe had some chances where they opened us up… they're a good team. I thought we defended that really well.

“Then, second half, I thought we started a little bit flat. We didn't get into a rhythm quick enough and then we conceded from our own build-up. After that, I think we got our foot back in the game. They had some momentum and we had some chances near the end, but I think it was a tough day for us to get into any part of the game.

“We came here last year and took nothing away. We've had to battle and fight and push in that part of the game numerous times, and you have to respect the opposition. They're a good side and they play good football, and you can’t just jump out and you can press everything, as you'll get picked off. When we did, we did. When we didn't and we were organised, I thought they struggled to really open us up.

“But you need that concentration throughout the game. I said to the players, it's a point for us to take home on the road because we’ve got to fight, work and push and be able to come out with something in the game.”
