Chelsea 2-1 Spurs | Roberto De Zerbi’s verdict

Roberto De Zerbi was frustrated with the goals we conceded at Stamford Bridge, but felt the last 20 minutes yielded more of the passion he wants to see from the players in Sunday’s final game against Everton.

Strikes either side of half-time from Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos put Chelsea in command in Tuesday night’s clash across the capital and although Richarlison pulled one back, we were unable to secure any points, with the battle for survival now going down to the last day of the season.

Reflecting on the performance, Roberto said: “I think we played a good game, not enough to win because we made too many mistakes in the last third of the pitch and conceded two goals in a stupid way, the first goal from 30 yards from Enzo Fernandez and the second goal, we lost another stupid ball when we were in total control but we had two chances to score with Mathys Tel in the first half and the second half with Richarlison.

“Anyway, we have to stay strong, be stronger and to prepare for the next game. I watched a good game, the spirit of the players was good and I think it’s an opportunity for every one of us because through this very difficult moment, difficult period, difficult days, if we stay strong we can become better – better as a coach, better as players, better as people – but we have to stay together, strong, focus on the game and play with personality, with courage, like today, but maybe with something more because in the last 20 minutes I think we played with more energy, with more passion and I want to see that behaviour.”

We host Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (4pm UK) sitting two points outside the drop zone, while 18th-placed West Ham are at home to Leeds United.
