Holdt on her goalscoring campaign: ‘To help the team, I’ve enjoyed it’

It has been an impressive season for Olivia Holdt as she once again found the back of the net in our Barclays Women’s Super League win at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Denmark international kick started our comeback with a thumping effort from inside the box, cancelling our Madison Haley’s opener for the hosts, before Toko Koga’s stunning strike from distance in stoppage time earned us victory on the final day of the season.

Already shortlisted for the WSL Player of the Season award, Oli stacked her name even further for the prize as that strike at Amex Stadium took her goal tally to 10 in all competitions, eight in the league, to finish as the club’s outright top goalscorer.

Completing her first full season in England – and in Lilywhite – our number 11 looks back on her season with ‘enjoyment’ and is delighted to help the team with her goal contributions this term.

“It's been a good first full season,” she told us, speaking after the game at Brighton. “I've enjoyed playing football and I think when I enjoy playing football, that's also when I play the best football. So, to be able to help the team with goals and assist, in tough games like this. It's been really nice and I've enjoyed it.”

When asked to reflect on our season finale win, she added: “Unreal. I think it sums up our season a little bit, we keep fighting until the end. We're behind and probably not played the best game this season, but we managed to get three points away against Brighton, which has shown the last couple of months that they're really a tough team. Toko, she has a great and big, big future in front of her.”

While the victory brought the curtain down on a record-breaking campaign – finishing on a club record 36 points in the WSL – Oli feels it will be just as important for the start of the next campaign.

“Martin [Ho] said before the game, ‘people are going to remember how you start the season and how you end the season’. So, to end the season with a win, and I know it's still a whole pre-season, a long time until the new season starts again, but to go and end the season with a big win like that, it's really important for momentum.”
