Bethany England’s emotional message to Spurs supporters
After three-and-a-half seasons in north London, our captain Bethany England will depart the club in the summer upon the expiry of her contract. Here is her message to supporters...
“Dear Spurs fans, three-and-a-half years ago, I arrived not knowing what to expect, scared of the unknown and quietly wondering if I would ever feel like myself again, or find my love for football the way I once knew it. From the very beginning, you gave me something I didn't even realise I was searching for. Your warmth, your belief, your unwavering support.
“You even made me feel seen again. In moments where I questioned myself, you never did. I came here hoping to rediscover something I'd lost, but I'm leaving with so much more than I'd ever imagined.
“I still remember that first game, scoring on my debut against Villa. In that moment, everything just felt right again. That's when I knew this wasn't just a club that needed me, it was a place that was helping put me back together.
“Tottenham became my home, a place that shaped me, challenged me and ultimately trusted me with the incredible honour of being captain. Something I will carry in my heart for the rest of my life. We've been through so much together, moments that tested us and moments that lifted us.
“Fighting through relegation battles, reaching an FA Cup final and that historic first north London derby win in front of our fans, memories I will never, ever forget. But what I'm most proud of goes beyond the pitch. The work we've done with the foundation, our charity efforts, standing alongside the proud Lily Whites, driving conversations, creating change and helping lay the foundations for the new women's and girls' facility.
“Knowing this might inspire the next generation means everything to me. To my team-mates and staff, you've been my family. Through every high and every low, you've stood beside me.
“I've laughed with you, grown with you and leaned on you more than you'll ever know. I will take those friendships with me forever. Saying goodbye is never easy, especially to a place that has meant so much to me.
“A piece of me will always belong here. I don't know what comes next, and that's a little scary, but I leave with a full heart, because representing and leading this club has been the greatest honour of my life. I hope that I've done it justice and that I've represented this badge with empathy, compassion, integrity and unwavering pride every single time I stepped onto that pitch.
“Thank you for believing in me when I needed it most. This isn't just a goodbye, this is a thank you for everything. Yours always, Bethany.”
