Mathys Tel initially joined us on loan from Bayern Munich in February, 2025, with the move made permanent in the summer of 2025.

A skilful, versatile attacking player, Mathys has played in a central role and in wide areas during his time at the club, racking up 38 appearances in all competitions in 2025/26, taking him to 58 in total, scoring seven goals.

A UEL winner in 2025, Mathys made five appearances in that run and was particularly impressive in the quarter-final, second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt. It was also his corner that provided the crucial opening goal in the semi-final, second leg against Bodo/Glimt.

Life before Spurs

Born in Sarcelles, France, Mathys spent his early years with JS Villiers-le-Bel, Paris FC, AS Jeunesse Aubervilliers and Montrouge FC 92 before joining Stade Rennais. In August, 2021 he became the youngest-ever player to feature for the club at 16 and featured against us in a UEFA Europa Conference League fixture in September, 2021. Mathys joined Bayern Munich in July, 2022, and became their youngest-ever goalscorer on his debut in August, 2022. A Bundesliga title winner in 2022/23 and 2024/25, he made 83 appearances in all competitions for the Bavarians, scoring 16 goals.

France

Mathys has featured for France from Under-17 to Under-21 levels and captained his country to the 2022 UEFA European Under-17 Championship title. He joined Wilson Odobert in the squad for the UEFA Under-21 Finals in the summer of 2025.
