Robbie Keane: “Sonny will only get better and better”

Wed 09 June 2021, 13:23|Tottenham Hotspur

Robbie Keane has great news for all Spurs fans - he believes there is even more to come from Heung-Min Son.

‘Keano’ spoke of his admiration for the South Korean star after Sonny racked up his best numbers in a Spurs shirt last season - 22 goals in all competitions, including 17 in the Premier League, plus another 17 assists, becoming the first Spur to record 10 goals and 10 assists in back-to-back Premier League campaigns.

Sonny also joined our ‘100 Club’ in January as he became the 18th player to score 100 goals for us in all competitions since we joined the Football League in 1908. Republic of Ireland legend Robbie is 11th on that list with 122 goals 306 appearances.

When Sonny plays, you know something is going to happen, he’ll always try something...

Robbie Keane on Heung-Min Son

“For me, Sonny is a top, top player,” said Robbie. “I’ve got a lot of time for him as a player and what people don’t mention a lot is how good he is with both feet, especially finishing, he’s so cultured, with shots from outside the box, and the power he gets behind those shots.

“I was the same, comfortable on both feet, I preferred my right foot, like him, but I was always happy to cut back onto my left to get a shot off. He’s similar in that way, but with more power in his left, certainly from outside the box.

“It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Sonny’s. Off the field as well, he’s such a great guy, such a great human being who has time for everybody. He’s a top player and congratulations to him on his most goals in a season. For me, he’s only going to get better and better.”
