'Everyone knows his talent' - Moussa on Tanguy

Wed 30 December 2020, 16:19|Tottenham Hotspur

As 2020 draws to a close, Jose Mourinho has praised Tanguy Ndombele for his 'big evolution' this season and Moussa Sissoko expects to see his friend and compatriot improve as the campaign progresses.

The midfielder has impressed so far in 2020/21, taking strides forward from a stop-start first season at the Club as he continues to settle into a new way of life on and off the pitch at Spurs.

Indeed, he's started 11 of our 15 Premier League matches so far this term - that's just one behind his total in the Premier League in 2019/20, where he didn't start the final nine matches following football's return after lockdown.

We've seen moments of magic as well, the spin away from Romeu and Ward-Prowse to help set up Heung-Min Son's equaliser at Stoke; the drop of the shoulder and delightful pass for Sonny to score against City and, most recently, his 25-yard strike at Wolves, his second goal in the Premier League and third in 20 appearances across all competitions.

"We are happy... overall there was a big evolution," said Jose. "I believe, to play at this intensity, Premier League intensity, and to last for 90 minutes, of course he needs another step in the direction of his fitness. But he's a player who, of course, is playing very well and is giving some good things to the team."

You can see this season that he’s showing a lot of quality on the pitch and we are all happy to have Tanguy in that form

Moussa on Tanguy

Moussa has played a huge role in Tanguy's integration both on and off the pitch. "Everyone can see what Tanguy is doing at the moment," he said.

"Of course, last season was a tough season for him. I can say that’s normal, because when you are a young player and you change countries, you go somewhere where you are living alone and don’t speak the language, everything is different, even the league, where you play, you need time to adapt. That was my case as well, when I first came to Tottenham.

"I said to him to stay calm, stay patient, and just to work hard in training and try to understand everyone here. Everyone knows he has talent, and everyone is sure he will perform.

"You can see this season that he’s showing a lot of quality on the pitch and we are all happy to have Tanguy in that form. I think he will even improve during the season, but what he is doing and showing is good at the moment."
