Manchester City 2-3 Spurs – the numbers

Tue 22 February 2022, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

We returned to winning ways on Saturday evening with a dramatic late, late 3-2 victory at Manchester City.

In an encounter which will undoubtedly go down as an all-time Premier League classic, we made the perfect start at the Etihad with Dejan Kulusevski stroking home on four minutes. That lead, however, was cancelled out by the break as Ilkay Gundogan poached from close range with 33 minutes gone.

Despite that setback, we went on to regain our advantage after the restart with Harry Kane finishing superbly just before the hour mark. The hosts, though, came back at us once more and it looked like the spoils were going to be shared come the second minute of injury time as, after Cristian Romero had been adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, Riyad Mahrez converted from the penalty spot.

Yet, as all of our league victories thus far in 2022 have shown, in the last knockings, you shouldn’t count us out. And so it proved as, in the fifth minute of added time, Harry rose above Kyle Walker in the box to nod home Dejan’s cross and sensationally claim all three points.

Here’s a look at all key numbers behind the game…

1 - We have lost just one of our six Premier League away matches since Antonio was appointed (W3 D2).

Doubling over the champions

50 – The game marked our 50th Premier League meeting with Manchester City.

1 - We are the first team to defeat City in a Premier League game since 30 October, 2021, when Crystal Palace ran out 2-0 winners at the Etihad.

36 - Forward duo Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane levelled the Premier League’s all-time goal contribution record of 36 with Sonny assisting Harry for his first of the night (Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba also recorded 36).

400 - Hugo Lloris made his 400th appearance for the Club. He is just the 12th player in our 140-year history to reach that landmark.

90+ - Our last three Premier League away wins have all been secured with goals scored in injury time – Davinson Sanchez (90+6) versus Watford, Steven Bergwijn (90+5 and 90+7) versus Leicester City and Harry Kane (90+5) versus Manchester City.
