Gallery: A look back at our iconic yellow kits

Our new Nike third Kit for the 2020/21 season, which went on sale on Monday morning (today), has taken inspiration from our iconic kits of the past.

Our new Nike third Kit for the 2020/21 season, which went on sale on Monday morning, has taken inspiration from our iconic kits of the past.

A traditional Spurs colour, yellow kits have been a staple of our history with us wearing 19 such strips since the late 1950s.

We first pulled on a yellow jersey in 1958. It was at the start of a ‘glory, glory ‘ period in the Club’s history as, in the years following, legendary manager Bill Nicholson led us to our famous double in 1961, two more FA Cups, two League Cups, the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Cup, before he departed the dugout in 1974. We wore four different yellow strips under Bill Nick.

Meanwhile, the last time we headed into a season with a yellow kit was six years ago, ahead of the 2014/15 campaign - Harry Kane's breakthrough season, with our homegrown striker hitting 24 goals in just 42 appearances. We also reached the League Cup Final.

Our latest yellow strip positions our crest as well as the Nike swoosh centrally in a nod to famous past kits - most notably worn in our 1982 FA Cup triumph and during our run to glory in the 1984 UEFA Cup.

To mark the launch of our latest third kit, take a look back at some of the famous yellow shirts of our past in this special gallery below...

1971-1975 away: One of our earliest forays into yellow, with navy shorts and prior to the days of shirt sponsorship. Joe Kinnear in action in 1972
1975-1977 away: Worn here by Ralph Coates, our 1975-77 away shirt sported a navy collar as well as the logo of manufacturers Umbro
1977-1980 away: Ossie Ardiles in action in 1979 in our Admiral away strip. The collar remained while navy trim was also added to the yellow jersey, as well as decorative vertical strips down the bodice
1980-1982 away: The kit in which we lifted the 1982 FA Cup, Glenn Hoddle is pictured in the final in the Le Coq Sportif yellow jersey. With a v-neck collar, our logo came to the fore with a central position while the manufacturers' logo sat on the sleeves
1988-1991 away: Manufactured by Hummel, shirt sponsor Holsten adorned the front of our yellow away shirt as we moved into the 90s. Here it is worn by Gary Lineker
1991-1994 away: Umbro returned as our kit manufacturer in 1991 and brought back the navy collar for their yellow strip. Worn here by Jurgen Klinsmann, a checkered navy pattern also decorated the right shoulder
1995/96 third: With our crest returning to its historical shield in 1995, principal kit manufacturer Pony also retained the collar. Hewlett Packard became our kit sponsor while navy sleeves were added to the strip
2002/03 third: With a round neck and navy trim, Kappa produced our third kit for the 2002/03 campaign. With Thomson as the shirt sponsor, the strip is worn here by Robbie Keane
2004/05 third: Kappa's second effort was an all-yellow affair. Here it is worn by Michael Carrick
2005/06 third: Kappa's final third strip, as worn here by Edgar Davids, saw the return of navy sleeves and yellow trim
2014/15 third: Harry Kane, as pictured above with Nacer Chadli in Under Armour's yellow third strip, enjoyed his breakthrough season in 2014/15. The kit featured the logo of our Official Partner AIA with black trim across the body
2020/21 third: Our new third kit sees our crest and the Nike swoosh move to a central position, while the strip also features a yellow gradient print
