Internationals – Davies returns in Wales’ defeat to France

Ben Davies returned to action for the first time since March as his 10-man Wales side went down 3-0 away to France on Wednesday night.

Sidelined with a calf problem since our 2-0 win at Aston Villa two-and-a-half months ago, the left-back came on as a substitute just before the hour mark as his country warmed up for Euro 2020 by taking on Les Bleus in Nice.

It was always an uphill struggle for Wales following the early dismissal of Neco Williams, though, with France registering a comfortable victory.

Captain Gareth Bale and Joe Rodon started for the visitors, Gareth withdrawn on 59 minutes at the same time as Ben’s introduction, while Hugo Lloris skippered France throughout, with Moussa Sissoko featuring as a 64th-minute substitute for the hosts.

Elsewhere, England captain Harry Kane played just over an hour for the Three Lions as they edged past Austria 1-0 at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium, Bukayo Saka on target in the second half.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg started and completed 68 minutes for Denmark in their 1-1 draw with Germany in Austria.

Tuesday evening saw young defender Maksim Paskotsi, a regular for our Under-18s this season, earn his fourth senior cap for Estonia as they began their Baltic Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Lithuania in Vilnius. He was substituted mid-way through the second half.
