Internationals – Lloris helps France qualify, vital win for Romero’s Argentina

Hugo Lloris got the better of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as France became the first team to qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Denmark on Saturday.

Both players completed the full game for their respective countries in Doha as Les Bleus made it two wins out of two in Group D, booking their place in the last 16 with a game to spare.

Pierre’s Denmark now need to beat Australia on Wednesday while hoping Tunisia don’t defeat France by more goals if they are to qualify.

Cristian Romero hugs Lionel Messi after Argentina's vital win over Mexico

Saturday evening saw Cristian Romero come off the bench in the 69th minute for Argentina as they edged out Mexico 2-0 in Lusail to get their Group C campaign back on track after their shock defeat to Saudi Arabia in the week.

The score was 1-0 when Cuti was deployed and he made some useful interventions to help prevent Mexico from getting off the mark before the game was wrapped up in the closing stages.

Ivan Perisic is next up from our contingent in Qatar on Sunday, with his Croatia side meeting Canada in Group F, kick-off 4pm UK time.
