Dier takes to the 'stage' at West End in Tottenham

Eric Dier joined local young people taking part in a performing arts workshop as part of our new West End in Tottenham programme, delivered in partnership with Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG).

The England international got involved in a physicality and movement session which saw participants practice theatrical lifts and creative sequences.

Workshops for local young people aged 11-18 from across Haringey have been running during the current school term at the London Academy of Excellence Tottenham – a Club-sponsored Sixth Form based on the stadium campus.

The programme forms part of the Club’s continued drive to provide life-changing opportunities for young people in and around Tottenham, creating a sport and leisure destination around its new stadium and embracing the arts and culture.

West End in Tottenham offers:

  • Performer workshops - for ages 13-18 years old, led by a West End professional, the workshop is designed to ignite participants’ imagination and build confidence in their performance ability and stage presence.
  • Physicality and movement workshops - for ages 12-15 and 16-18 years old, this workshop introduces participants to the basics of movement, showing them how to use their bodies and develop physical skills to challenge and re-imagine what theatre and live performance is about.
  • Beatbox and hip hop theatre workshops - for ages 11-15 and 16-18 years old, this workshop is led by Vaneeka Dadhria - a theatre-maker, writer, director, rapper, beatboxer, and singer. The workshop uses Vaneeka’s own musical and theatrical devising practice to help participants create new forms of performance and theatre
  • Interval workshops - for ages 14-18 years old, targeted at those who traditionally engage in sports but may face barriers in gaining regular access to physical activity, using ensemble and cardio-based exercises, whilst blending theatre techniques such as voice and breath.

London’s West End - only half an hour away from Tottenham - presents some of the world’s most celebrated theatre productions. Young people who take part in any of the West End in Tottenham workshops are invited, along with their families, to discover some of the best shows in London as part of the programme.

Eric said: “It’s fantastic that the Club is running this programme – something completely different to what you’d expect a football club to offer and it doesn’t surprise me that Spurs are leading the way in this.

“Football and sport aren't necessarily for everyone and, by teaming up with ATG and being able to bring performing arts workshops here, we’re able to engage even more young people in the area.

“The session was really enjoyable – I would certainly recommend it! You don’t have to be a fan of theatre or have any ambitions of being on stage – it’s just about having fun and being active in an inclusive way.”

A limited number of spaces on West End in Tottenham sessions over the coming weeks, including half-term, are still available to book online here.
