Drew: "It's such a great group to come into"
Summer signing Drew Spence made a great first impression for Spurs Women in the WSL on Sunday, scoring from long range to give us a 2-0 lead against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
"I'm delighted to get the three points," she said. "You always want to start the season off with a win. We grounded it out at the end and were in control for most of the game.
"I had a bit of time on the edge of the box and Mol spotted me and played me the ball. I thought, you know what, if I don't shoot this I'm going to get told off! I made sure I put my foot behind it and thankfully it went in.
"Ash has got that in her locker and I'm delighted for her to get that goal. I told her at half time that she needs to celebrate a bit more if she scores goals like that!
"We've all settled in really well. The trip away to Louisville really helped us all come together as a group and have pre-season games that were challenging us together. It's such a great group to come into and they've all welcomed us."
Leicester pulled one back through an own goal from Spence in the second half, and she was able to hold her hands up and take it on the chin.
"It was my fault with the own goal and I need to be better with that so it's just little things like that we have to make sure we keep on top of, but after that I don't think they created any chances. We kept them out and managed to control the game. Maybe we just need to create some more chances of our own.
"They've improved from last season like everyone across the league. When you come here, it's never going to be an easy game."
The north London derby is up next - a rivalry Spence is no stranger to, having spent most of her career at Chelsea.
"I can't wait for it. Arsenal has always been a rivalry for me anyway, so nothing new there! To be a part of that north London derby will be amazing.
"It's important that we play more in these stadiums and I don't see why we can't. To play at The Emirates in front of such a big crowd will be an occasion, but we'll just be focusing on the game."
