Ash: "The girls dug in deep today"

Ashleigh Neville said we dug in deep to get the three points in Sunday's 2-1 win against Leicester City Women at the King Power Stadium.

After giving us the lead with an incredible strike into the top left corner from over 35 yards out, Drew Spence put us two up, but Leicester responded in the second half to make things more difficult.

"I'm delighted," she said. "It's the first game and with the new players coming in, three points is massive away from home.

"We dominated the first half and played some really good football. The second half was a bit more scrappy but I think you expect that when you go 2-0 up against a team like Leicester. They came onto us but we dealt with it really well and came away with the three points in the end.

"[For my goal], I saw it so I took that touch and thought why not? It went in so I'm happy with that."

Proving that a goal from distance is no fluke in this team, Spence picked out the bottom left corner from long range just moments later.

"We've been working on it in training," Ash said. "Rehanne always says if you get the opportunity to take it and I think me and Drew both did that today and got the goals we deserved.

"The new players are settling in great. They're great additions to the team and I can't wait to see what this season brings with them.

"Leicester is a nice stadium and it's always nice to play in these big stadiums. I love a bit of the crowd joining in with the play so I'm happy.

"We were really unlucky to concede that goal but it went in and we had to pick ourselves up from it. The girls dug in deep today and we had to deal with a lot of bodies on the back line with balls being pumped forward, but I think the team did really well and we got the points we deserved."

Next up, we travel to the Emirates Stadium for what promises to be a thrilling north London derby against Arsenal.

"Another game at a big stadium at The Emirates. We're looking forward to it so we hope to see you all there.

"It's going to be a big occasion but we need to focus on the game and not let the fans get into our heads, but it will be great to have that many there."
