Local students inspired by life skills workshops at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Today (Tuesday 12 July), students from across Haringey and Enfield took part in a range of educational workshops focussed on developing life skills at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Young people from Gladesmore Community School, Holy Family Catholic Secondary School and Edmonton County School all took part in a series of creative and fun activities designed to promote teamwork, resilience, and wellbeing as part of the Premier League Inspires Programme.
Teaming up with university students from Imperial College London, young people got their creative juices flowing, using a range of paints and colours to design their own logos before printing them on specially made t-shirts and tote bags.
Later, they took part in a session coordinated by Impressionable Minds - a youth educational charity – in which they learnt about the most effective ways to stay safe online, the importance of being aware of their own digital footprint and how social media can impact on mental health.
The workshops are the culmination of a 10-week programme in which students have learnt about life skills through the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Premier League Inspires - an educational programme aimed at inspiring and motivating young people aged 11-16.
After the workshops, the schools were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Club’s iconic stadium, exploring the first team changing rooms before heading pitchside and finding out how the first team prepare for matches.
Myri Demetrious, Senior Programme Coordinator at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “The programme aims to inspire young people to develop the skills and positive attitudes needed to fulfil their potential, so it was great to see students so engaged with the workshops, working closely with their peers and, most importantly, having fun”.
Speaking after the event, one of the participants said: “I had a fantastic day at the Stadium. It was great working with Imperial students to design my own t-shirt and really interesting to hear about the risks of social media. I’ve absolutely loved taking part in the programme.”
