Ben & Rob's preview - Wolves
N17 Live presenter Ben Haines and Club commentator Rob Daly look ahead to Saturday's early kick-off in the Premier League against Wolves at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (12.30pm).
Chelsea
First up, what were your thoughts on last week's 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge?
Rob: “There were a few takeaways from Chelsea. Okay, it was a tough afternoon at Stamford Bridge, but, again, it was an example of the character and fight the team has developed under Antonio Conte. Also, the ability to mix it up off the bench, to be able to change the system and to bring on quality players like Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Ivan Perisic altered the flow of the game.”
Ben: “I loved the last two minutes of last week! Other than that, it was hard work, but hasn’t it always been at Stamford Bridge? The overarching feeling from fans is that this feels different now, us being the side that gets the 96th-minute equaliser and the way we showed the more aggressive aspects that you need to get over the line. There is so much to build on.”
Wolves
What challenge are you expecting from Bruno Lage's men?
Rob: “Wolves won at Spurs last season, played a 3-5-2 and packed the midfield, and that stifled the impact of Harry Kane dropping into that ‘10’ position. At the moment, they are playing with four at the back, and while they’re not conceding many goals, they’re not scoring many either (lost 2-1 at Leeds, drew 0-0 against Fulham). It will be interesting to see if they stick with four at the back. They’ve signed Nathan Collins from Burnley, and I thought very few defenders dealt with the threat of Kane as well as Collins did in the 1-0 win against Burnley at the end of last season. He was very impressive on the day, Burnley’s best player. Wolves have a real steal there.”
Ben: “Wolves surprised me last season. I thought they might be in for a battle, but Bruno Lage did a fantastic job and they finished 10th in the end, a good return. However, they ended quite slowly, and they are now nine without a win in the Premier League. They got a bit of fortune in a bit of a ding-dong against Fulham last week (0-0), when Aleksandar Mitrovic missed a penalty. I wonder whether, this weekend, they’ll go back to wing-backs, switch it up and match us up.”
Harry’s decade
Thursday marked 10 years since Harry’s Premier League debut for us - 18 August, 2012 - do you have a favourite goal from his 184 since that day at St James' Park?
Ben: “I loved the game against Arsenal in 2014/15, two goals and the looping header into the corner for the late winner. Nabil Bentaleb’s cross, and the ball seems to be in the air for ages. The quality of that finish, the celebrations, the roof coming off... it just felt like the pendulum had swung with Arsenal, what a feeling.”
Rob: “I was tempted to go for the two goals against Chelsea in the 5-3 win on New Year’s Day, 2015, the moment he felt he belonged at that level, two goals, two assists, then the derby last season, keeping his cool from the penalty spot and then making it 2-0, but I’m going to go for a different game from last season... his performance in the 3-2 win against City at the Etihad in February, I believe the best individual performance of any Premier League player last season. He was unbelievable that day. It started with the pass to set Heung-Min Son away, leading to Dejan Kulusevski’s opener, then scored twice, including the winner in added time. City couldn’t get near him. It was one of the most elite displays I’ve ever seen in the Premier League.”
