Tottenham Hotspur Women midfielder Angharad James played 180 minutes across Wales’ double header in the FIFA Women’s World Cup UEFA qualifiers at the start of September.
After beating Greece 1-0 away from home on Friday, Wales needed just one point to qualify for the play-offs for the first time, which they got with a 0-0 draw at home to Slovenia on Tuesday to finish second in Group I, James making her 100th appearance for her nation.
“It’s a very special moment,” she said after the game. “The focus was on getting the point but now I will enjoy the moment with my team-mates and my family.
“This is for my family tonight. They supported me from day one. I can’t thank them enough.”
Elsewhere, Norway have already qualified for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand having gone unbeaten to finish top of Group F. Spurs forward Celin Bizet Ildhusøy came off the bench in both of their games - a 1-0 win at Belgium on Friday and a convincing 5-0 victory at home to Albania on Tuesday.
Unfortunately for Tinja-Riikka Korpela and Eveliina Summanen, Finland won’t be at the World Cup following Thursday’s 1-0 loss away to Republic of Ireland and Tuesday’s 5-0 defeat at home to Sweden, with both Spurs players involved in both games.
As for Nikola Karczewska, she came on in the 65th minute of Poland’s World Cup qualifier away to Albania on Thursday. Poland won 2-1 but Karczewska was sent off after receiving two yellow cards. Poland have also missed out on World Cup qualification.
Shelina Zadorsky was the busiest of the Spurs players involved in international friendlies, as she played all of Canada’s 1-0 and 2-1 wins away to Australia on Saturday and Tuesday respectively, keeping a clean sheet in the former.
For England Under-23s, Jess Naz played 72 minutes of Friday’s 2-1 win away to Norway, before Drew Spence featured in all of Jamaica’s 1-0 defeat against South Korea on Saturday.
