Spurs 2-0 Fulham | Ange on Destiny and Pape’s early departures

Ange Postecoglou gave an update on Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr after both players were substituted early in the second half of our 2-0 win against Fulham on Monday evening.

Emerson Royal was seen warming up on the pitch at half-time and replaced Destiny just after we’d gone 2-0 up on 56 minutes. Pape was next to depart a few minutes later with Oliver Skipp his replacement in central midfield.

Goals from Heung-Min Son and James Maddison sent us back to the top of the Premier League and stretched our unbeaten start to nine matches, including seven wins and four out of four at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange, who has now made the best start after nine matches of any new manager in Premier League history, was asked about Destiny and Pape on the Review Show afterwards.

He said: “Pape hasn’t been well for the last 24 hours. He was really keen to start, we kind of knew 60 minutes would be his maximum and it was just fatigue in the end. It’s a short turn around (before the next game at Palace on Friday night) but the medical team seem to be pretty confident he’ll be fine. Destiny just felt a bit of tiredness at half-time, we said to give it 10, 15 minutes and, again, with that short turn around, once we scored the second goal, it made sense to take him off.”
