Excitement builds as you reach the fifth round of the FA Cup - victory, and you know you're into the last eight of football's most famous competition.

As eight-times winners, we've certainly had our share of huge fifth round ties over the years and as we prepare to travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United this time around on Wednesday evening (7.55pm), we've had a look back at some memorable fifth round wins in recent times, starting with a typical match winning show from Paul Gascoigne in 1991...

16.02.1991 - Portsmouth 1-2 Spurs

Paul Gascoigne was the inspiration behind our run to the FA Cup Final with six goals in rounds four, five, quarter-final and, most famously, semi-final before it all collapsed with his injury early in the final. Thankfully, we still lifted the trophy against Forest. Two of Gazza's goals came at Fratton Park in the fifth round, one of a few classic FA Cup 'banana skins' you always find on the road to Wembley that we manage to navigate against the likes of Blackpool, Oxford, Notts County and, in this case, Jim Smith's Pompey. On a heavy pitch, Mark Chamberlain opened the scoring in the first half and it stayed that way until the hour, when Gazza started and finished the equaliser, racing into the box to head home Paul Allen's cross. With five minutes left, the midfielder latched onto Pat van den Hauwe's clearance, skipped past Lee Russell and finished low past Andy Gosney from 18 yards, or, as sadly-departed John Motson described it, 'Gascoigne, it's still Gascoigne, it's absolutely brilliant'.

Spurs: Thorstvedt, Edinburgh, van den Hauwe, Sedgley, Nayim, Mabbutt, Samways (Gray), Gascoigne, Thomas, Lineker, Allen.

01.03.1995 - Southampton 2-6 Spurs

This was 'Rocket' Ronny Rosenthal's night at The Dell. The teams initially drew 1-1 at the Lane and the Saints looked in control after Neil Shipperley and Matt Le Tissier's penalty put them 2-0 up at half-time. Gerry Francis called for Ronny off the bench, and what a response. He swept home Nick Barmby's cross for 2-1, then took the game into extra time with a drive from 25 yards. The best was yet to come - in the first half of added time, Ronny found himself in space left side, carried the ball a few yards and unleashed a belter that swerved into the top corner from 30 yards. Teddy Sheringham, Barmby and Darren Anderton completed the 6-2 scoreline with three goals in the final seven minutes.

Spurs: Walker, Austin, Calderwood, Nethercott (Rosenthal), Mabbutt, Edinburgh, Anderton, Howells (Caskey), Barmby, Klinsmann, Sheringham.

24.02.1999 - Spurs 2-0 Leeds United

A David Ginola masterclass, one goal, two that got away, plus a Darren Anderton thunderbolt saw us home in this fifth round replay. The teams initially drew 1-1 at Elland Road and this tie crackled under the lights at the Lane. Both teams had chances as it stayed goalless in the first half before Ginola took over. First up, what would have been one of the great goals as he dribbled from right to left, beating four defenders before firing back across goal, Nigel Martyn somehow touching the effort onto the inside of the post and to safety. Then, Ginola took a quick free-kick to Anderton, who struck one of the sweetest strikes you'll ever see into the top corner from 40 yards, truly memorable. Ginola then beat two players before hitting the crossbar, but he wasn't to be denied and, on 67 minutes, a cross was sliced skywards to the edge of the box where Ginola met it in full, his volley flying home to see us through.

Spurs: Walker, Carr, Vega (Young), Campbell, Edinburgh, Anderton, Freund, Sherwood, Ginola (Sinton 90), Ferdinand (Armstrong), Iversen.

18.02.2007 - Fulham 0-4 Spurs

Robbie Keane belted home two volleys as we enjoyed this fifth round afternoon by the banks of the Thames at Fulham. Both came from Mido flicks, the first from 20 yards to open the scoring on six minutes was good enough, the second even better, this time fired home on the full on 68. Dimitar Berbatov took over from Mido on 73 minutes and added his typical panache to proceedings with two goals. The first saw him hit the inside of the post with his right foot before finishing the rebound with his left, the second a deft lob over Jan Lastuvka from Keano's volleyed pass. What a partnership they were - Keano and Berba scored 90 goals between them in two seasons, 2006/07 and 2007/08.

Spurs: Robinson, Chimbonda, Dawson, Gardner, Young-Pyo Lee, Lennon (Ghaly), Zokora, Tainio, Malbranque, Keane, Mido (Berbatov).

19.02.2017 - Fulham 0-3 Spurs

A first for Harry Kane in this fifth round win at Craven Cottage - his fifth hat-trick for Spurs was his first in the FA Cup. The same three players combined to give us a 2-0 lead. First up, Kieran Trippier's quick throw released Christian Eriksen, who crossed for Harry to slide home on 16 minutes. In the second half, Trippier cut back to Eriksen, whose first-time cross was converted by the striker for 2-0. Harry completed his hat-trick on 73 minutes, latching onto Dele's pass and slotting past Marcus Bettinelli.

Spurs: Vorm, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Winks (Dembele), Wanyama, Eriksen, Dele (Onomah), Son, Kane (Sissoko).
