Our recent unbeaten record on the south coast | Bournemouth vs Spurs

We travel to AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday looking to extend our unbeaten record against sides on the south coast.

The region has been a happy hunting ground for us of late as we have won three and drawn two of our previous five trips there since a 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion in January, 2021 – that being our only loss in our last eight league games on the south coast.

Ahead of this weekend's early kick-off, here’s how we have fared in our last five trips to the Premier league's most-southern sides…

1 - Southampton 3-3 Spurs - 18 March, 2023

We ended our four-match losing streak away from home with a frenetic six-goal draw at St Mary’s Stadium but were unable to see out a two-goal lead against bottom-of-the-league Southampton.

A disjointed first half from both sides failed to provide much in the way of entertainment until Pedro Porro fired in his first-ever goal for the Club on the stroke of half-time. We made the worst possible start to the second half as Saints striker Che Adams levelled seconds after the restart before Harry Kane and Ivan Perisic – also opening his goalscoring account in Lilywhite – put us two goals in front with 16 minutes left.

Theo Walcott pulled one back for the hosts and James Ward-Prowse slotted home his stoppage-time spot-kick to leave us with one point to take back to north London.

2 - Brighton 0-1 Spurs - 8 October, 2022

To pay tribute to the sudden passing of our fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone in the week building up to our trip to Brighton, our players warmed up in shirts with the words ‘Always in our hearts, Gian Piero’ and a minute’s applause took place prior to kick-off.

Once the game got under way, we played with an added motivation to do Gian Piero proud and took a deserved lead on 22 minutes. Son collected Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s pass after the Seagulls failed to properly clear a corner and his cross was turned in by a stooping Harry Kane for his eighth goal of the season.

We were short of our fluent best in the second half as Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton side came into the contest in the Italian’s first home game at the helm but we held on for a massive three points to end an emotional week on a positive note.

3 - Bournemouth 2-3 Spurs - 29 October, 2022

This exact fixture last season played out a five-goal thriller as Rodrigo Bentancur’s stoppage-time winner capped a superb comeback from being 2-0 down at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries made the most of our slow start as Wales international Kieffer Moore scored a brace to put the home side in control. We barely laid a glove on Bournemouth before Ryan Sessegnon halved the deficit with a tidy finish into the far corner in the 57th minute. That shifted the momentum and we were back on level terms with 17 minutes remaining, Ben Davies heading in a corner.

Eventually, it was another set piece that provided the winner deep into stoppage time. As Heung-Min Son swung in our 19th corner of the game, substitute Rodrigo saw his initial header blocked but scored at the second bite of the cherry to win it in dramatic fashion.

4 - Brighton 0-2 Spurs - 16 March, 2022

A record-breaking goal from Harry Kane and Cristian Romero’s first in our colours helped us coast to victory in Brighton.

It was rather subdued in the opening stages as neither side managed a shot on target until we broke the stalemate on 37 minutes. ‘Cuti’ was in the right place at the right time as Dejan Kulusevksi’s shot deflected off the Argentinian and rolled into the bottom corner to open his account for us.

We were well in control when Kane doubled our lead with a low shot past Seagulls keeper Robert Sanchez shortly before the hour mark with his 95th goal in away games. That milestone meant the England captain overtook Wayne Rooney as the competition’s record goalscorer away from home – and lifted him above Frank Lampard in the Premier League's all-time goalscorers list on 178 league goals.

5 - Southampton 1-1 Spurs - 28 December, 2021

Due to bad weather and COVID-19 outbreaks leading to postponements, our first Premier League away game for 51 days saw us come from behind to draw with a Southampton side who played for more than 50 minutes with 10 men.

We trailed at St Mary’s when James Ward-Prowse sent a swerving right-footed shot from 15 yards out past Hugo Lloris on 25 minutes, but the game turned when Mohammed Salisu – already booked for an earlier foul on Emerson Royal – brought down Heung-Min Son in the box to earn a second yellow in 12 first-half minutes. We were awarded a penalty and Harry Kane dutifully dispatched it to level the scores just before the break.

It was one-way traffic in the second half as we pressed for the winner and twice had the ball in the net only for them to be disallowed. First, Harry was denied by the narrowest of offside calls by VAR before Matt Doherty was denied a winner having been adjudged to have fouled Saints goalkeeper - and now Spurs man - Fraser Forster in the build up.
