1 from 30 | Spurs v Manchester City

Welcome back to our special feature for 2022/23 - 1 from 30 - as we continue to mark 30 years of the Premier League.

English football's new dawn kicked-off on the weekend of 15/16 August, 1992 as the FA Premier League replaced Barclays League Division One, ending a structure of Division One-Four that had been in place since 1958. Thirty years on, the Premier League is amongst the most watched and most valuable sporting leagues in the world.

In this series, we're featuring a match from those 30 years that corresponds with our next fixture - next up, it's Manchester City at home, a fixture that has produced just about everything over the course of the Premier League...

Clint Dempsey celebrates the equaliser on 75 minutes
Jermain Defoe curls home for 2-1 on 79 minutes
Gareth Bale dinks over Joe Hart for 3-1 and three goals in under seven minutes

Spurs 3-1 City - 21 April, 2013

A stunning three-goal salvo in under seven minutes rocked reigning champions Manchester City as we continued our surge for Champions League qualification almost 10 years ago.

Trailing to Samir Nasri's fifth-minute strike against a City side trying to keep hold of rivals United at the top of the Premier League, Clint Dempsey started the comeback on 75 minutes before Jermain Defoe hit one of the best goals of his 143 for the Club to make it 2-1 on 79.

Enter the irrepressible Gareth Bale - on a run that would extend to scoring 11 goals in 12 Premier League games - to complete this spectacular turn around as victory at the Lane moved us to within a point of Chelsea in fourth in the Premier League with five games remaining.

We won three and drew two of those matches to take our sequence to just two defeats in the last 22 league games in 2012/13. However, one of those draws was at Wigan, later relegated (the other draw was at Chelsea), and that proved costly as we finished a point adrift of Arsenal in fifth.

Spurs: Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto, Dempsey, Parker (Huddlestone 61), Dembele, Sigurdsson (Holtby 60), Adebayor (Defoe 71), Bale.
