Spurs 3-1 Bristol City (WSL) | Robert’s verdict: “We scored some beautiful goals”
Robert Vilahamn had plenty of reasons to be happy after our first victory of the new Women’s Super League season on Sunday.
First-half goals from Olga Ahtinen, Martha Thomas and Eveliina Summanen set us on the way to a 3-1 home win over Bristol City, Amalie Thestrup’s penalty after a harsh handball decision against Eveliina proving merely a consolation for the visitors.
Finland internationals Olga and Eveliina delighted the crowd at Brisbane Road with superb long-range strikes, while Martha charged down a clearance to make it two goals in as many games since arriving from Manchester United.
Reflecting on his first home game in charge, ahead of which, he and our summer signings were formally introduced to our supporters, Robert told SPURSPLAY: “The atmosphere was amazing with the fans singing and cheering for us and giving them the first half, it was really good football, we created a lot of good chances and scored some beautiful goals.
“It was a little bit tricky in the second half with the energy but we still played some good football and almost scored a few more goals, so I’m very happy with the team and the players.”
Commenting on Olga’s opening goal for us, where she picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and fired home superbly, Robert added: “She can score those goals, I knew that from Sweden.
“It was a really good shot – well played before that as well because we actually had the ball for quite a long time, created that chance and she finished excellently.”
