Notebook - Spurs vs West Ham

We return to Premier League action on Sunday as we host West Ham United (kick-off 4.30pm UK).

Here's a look at all the game's key points of note...

1 - Hard to beat at home

This is a home Premier League fixture we have enjoyed in recent history. Of our last 20 home games against West Ham, we have avoided defeat in 18, including 11 wins and seven draws. Sunday’s London rivals have also struggled on the road of late and are winless in their last nine away top-flight matches.

2 - Our last league meeting in N17

Our previous encounter against the Hammers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium came in March, 2022, and saw a Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane masterclass with the competition's most prolific double act involved in all three goals in that 3-1 win.

Our first goal came in the opening 10 minutes when Harry instinctively looked to provide for Sonny in the box, before a helpless Kurt Zouma bundled the ball into his own net. The pair combined again shortly after when our number 10, dropping deep in typical fashion, played an inch-perfect through ball for an onrushing Son to fired home.

The Hammers halved the deficit before half-time as Saïd Benrahma latched onto a Michael Dawson header from a corner and fired low past Hugo Lloris. Harry had chances to score himself but, with two minutes of play remaining, turned provider again for our third when he cutely flicked a header into the path of Sonny who provided a clinical finish to secure all three points.

Key highlights: Spurs 3-1 West Ham (20.03.22)

3 - Harry hitting new heights

In his last 17 league appearances against West Ham, our Club record goal scorer has been involved in 15 goals (11 scored, four assisted) and is unbeaten in all eight home appearances in this fixture. Despite firing a blank in his last four league games against West Ham, the England captain has scored more than a goal a game against the Irons (eight goals in seven appearances) and is in a rich vein of form this season with 17 goals in 23 appearances.

4 - Son to shine again?

Much like our number 10, Heung-Min Son loves this fixture having scored or assisted 13 goals in 16 appearances against the Hammers. In his last 13 Premier League matches against West Ham, Sonny has five goals and four assists and boasts an even better home record with three goals and two assists in his last three games. With our 2021/22 Golden Boot winner enduring a tough patch in front of goal this term - four goals in 21 appearances so far - he will be hoping his record against the Hammers can help regain that prolific form.

5 - Expect goals

Both sides go into today's clash as only two of four teams without a goalless draw in the league this season - alongside Manchester City and Southampton. We did have an impressive run of five consecutive home clean sheets against West Ham between 2006 and 2011 but, since then, we have recorded only one clean sheet in our last 10 league games against the Hammers. With a goalless draw seemingly an unlikely scoreline, the stats suggest the opening goal will be huge for us with an impressive 22-game unbeaten run against West Ham when we have opened the scoring (18 wins and four draws).

6 - Inconsistent Irons

Unlike their impressive exploits last term, West Ham have endured a difficult run this season with them currently sitting two points above the relegation zone in 16th. In saying that, recent results have improved with them taking five points from their last three league games, defeating Everton (2-0) while holding Newcastle United and Chelsea (both 1-1). However, in the wider context, David Moyes' side are 17 points worse off at this stage last season having won six games less and scored 22 fewer goals. Performances against the league's top half teams have been a particular concern with just one win in 11 games (D3 L7).

7 - Antonio's threat

Whilst Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son have proved a nightmare for West Ham in recent seasons, it is fair to say the Hammers' Michail Antonio has played his part in this fixture. Four of West Ham's last five Premier League victories against us have seen Antonio find the net, with the Jamaican international scoring the winner in three different 1-0 victories in that run. He also became the first away player to score at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in April, 2019.
