Max wins as Under-21s race at F1® DRIVE – London!

There was a familiar first name on the top step of the podium when our Under-21s squad took time out from training to enjoy a team bonding exercise at the new F1® DRIVE – London circuit at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this week.

Max Robson channeled his inner Max Verstappen to take the chequered flag as Development Squad players, coaches and support staff took to the track at the world’s first official F1 karting experience, which is situated below the iconic South Stand in N17.

Race One was an enthralling affair that had a bit of everything, with Robson ultimately winning despite accusations from some team-mates of a false start!

Jamie Donley took advantage of a multi-car battle to jump from fifth to second in the final standings, while Dante Cassanova was third.

“Jude (Soonsup-Bell) overtook me but I just had to stay close to him, he spun out somehow and I capitalised on it and got the win!” smiled a triumphant Robson. “Once I had that space in front of me, I tried to make it count. It was good to win and a great experience. A couple of the boys fancied their chances but overall it was a great day for everyone – we’ve really enjoyed it.”

Race Two also had plenty of drama – Max McKnight qualified second and was leading on the first lap before unfortunately spinning out, with Physical Development Coach Josh Rice going on to take the win.

Will Andiyapan was second, with Will Lankshear completing the podium.

Lankshear reflected: “Third place... I’m not as happy as I would have been if I’d won, but I had a great time. I have to be honest – Josh and Will were better than me on the day! This place is amazing though – the facilities are incredible and as soon as we arrived, the boys were all really excited to get going and see what we could do on the track. All the participants fancied their chances but I just tried to do my own thing and see where I finished! It’s been good for team bonding and as a social outing for us all.”

Tickets for F1® DRIVE – London, which opened a few weeks ago as part of a 15-year strategic partnership between the Club and Formula 1, are available to the public now via f1drivelondon.com.

Our Under-21s, meanwhile, will be back at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for match action on Saturday 24 February to take on Fleetwood Town in the knockout stages of the Premier League Cup (kick-off 1pm UK). Tickets are available now – this is a limited-capacity fixture, so book now to avoid disappointment.
