Robert Vilahamn: “Supporters can help us get to Wembley”

We are back in action this weekend in the semi-final of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Robert Vilahamn has called for supporters to come down for our clash with Leicester City.

It’s set to be another memorable day at N17 on Sunday afternoon (12pm UK) – secure your tickets now – as it will be our first-ever appearance in the last four of the competition and our first return to the world-class stadium since we beat Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League to win our first north London derby in the team’s history.

Over 19,000 supporters were in attendance to witness our first win over the Gunners and, with tickets selling quickly for our semi-final clash against the Foxes, Robert believes the fans in the stands can help inspire the team to a historic victory on Sunday afternoon.

After being welcomed to the pitch at half-time during the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Robert said: “I was just so proud that we beat Manchester City and were so calm in the penalty shootout. So, I’m very pleased about that and, for the first time, we are in the semi-final and I’m very much looking forward to that.

“We want to be here [Tottenham Hotspur Stadium] and we had an amazing game here against Arsenal just before Christmas for our first win in the north London derby with around 20,000 supporters there – it was a very enjoyable day.

“We want to be a club that we want to make sure we want to develop the Women’s football… We want to be here as it’s a great atmosphere. It's a big game as we are quite close to silverware and, I think, if we can bring the fans here for the semi-final, then they can help us get to Wembley.”

We are approaching the end of Robert’s first full season at the Club and it has certainly been an impressive first campaign in the WSL, sitting sixth in the table and six points behind Manchester United in fourth having played a game less, while reaching the semi-final of the FA Cup semi-final for the first time.

“It suits me,” Robert explained when asked about his time so far at Hotspur Way. “They recruited me because the way I play and is connected to how the Club wants to play. But, it’s how we are here ‘to dare to do’ and it’s kind of easy as you don’t need to be afraid of anything as the Club wants you to be brave and sometimes you succeed and sometimes you don’t, but we just keep going and that’s what I love about this Club.

“Ange [Postecoglou] is doing amazing stuff here with the Men’s side and we are trying to build with the Women’s team, we are making good progress. It will take time, but we are in a really good spot and hopefully in a few years, we can win titles together.”
