Our Women's FA Cup story so far

We are back in Adobe Women’s FA Cup action on Sunday afternoon afternoon as we face Leicester City in the semi-final of the competition – the first time either side have reached this stage in their history.

With only two days to go until the clash with the Foxes at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, supporters can still secure their seats for what is set to be an historic occasion in N17 - grab your tickets here.

Here’s a look back at how we secured our spot in the final four of the FA Cup...

Fourth Round

Spurs 3-2 Sheffield United - 14.01.24

As we entered the competition in the fourth round, we faced FA Women’s Championship side, Sheffield United, at Brisbane Road – our first game of 2024 – but it wasn’t the start we were expecting. Sophie Haywood gave the Blades the lead in the 13^th minute before Jessica Sigsworth extended their advantage shortly after the break, leaving us a mountain to climb.

We managed to pull a goal back through Bethany England, her first of the season, before she added her second of the game from the penalty spot, bringing the scores level as the game entered the final 10 minutes. It looked certain that we would be heading to extra-time, but in the sixth minute of added time, Rosella Ayane raced onto Olga Ahtinen’s pass and lifted the ball over goalkeeper Fran Stenson and into the back of the net to give us a dramatic victory.

Fifth Round

Spurs 1-0 Charlton Athletic - 10.02.24

Another FA Women’s Championship stood in our way in the fifth round as Charlton Athletic – led by our former manager Karen Hills – travelled to Brisbane Road. After hitting the woodwork twice in the first hour, the deadlock was eventually broken in the final quarter of the game as Kit Graham, who spent almost 14 years with the Addicks and scored over 200 goals during that time, scored the only goal of the game with a low effort from the edge of the box to see us progress to the last eight for the third time in our history. The Addicks did pose a threat in the final stages of the game, but Becky Spencer was alert to Mary Bashford’s effort.

Quarter-Finals

Spurs 1-1 Manchester City (4-3 on penalties) - 10.03.24

It was a familiar opponent for us in the quarter-finals as we welcomed Manchester City to Brisbane Road in our fourth meeting with the three-time FA Cup winners this season – the third in the space of six weeks – and it involved further late drama.

After Mary Fowler handed the visitors the lead in the sixth minute, we continued to search for an equaliser throughout the game and, in the sixth minute of injury time, Bethany England capitalised on a mistake in City’s backline to slot home into an empty net. The game went to penalties after finishing 1-1 in 120 minutes and Becky Spencer produced the heroics, saving spot-kicks from Alex Greenwood and Chloe Kelly, before defender Amy James-Turner stepped up and coolly converted her penalty to secure a 4-3 win in the shootout.
