Grant in Matildas travelling squad for Paris Olympics

Charlotte Grant has been selected as one of the four travelling reserve players in Australia National Team squad for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris next month.

As a travelling reserve, the defender can be selected as a replacement athlete in the squad in case of injury or withdrawal of one of the selected 18 players in Tony Gustavsson’s side throughout the tournament.

The 22-year-old was named in the Matildas squad for their double-header international friendly against China in the last week, starting in the first game in Adelaide before coming as a substitute in yesterday’s encounter in Sydney as she earned her 25th and 26th cap for her country.

‘Charli’ made move to the Club in the January transfer window and was straight into the action as a Lilywhite, starting in seven of her first eight games, eventually making 14 appearances in all competitions and scoring one goal.

Australia will compete in Group B with USA, Zambia and Germany and begin their tournament on Thursday 25 July (6pm) against the latter at Stade De Marseille in Marseille, France.

They will then face Zambia in Nice on Sunday 28 July (6pm) before concluding their group phase with an exciting encounter against USA on Wednesday 31 July (6pm).
