Ange Postecoglou described the performance as ‘outstanding’ and that he was ‘super proud’ of the team’s efforts after our 3-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Brennan Johnson’s third-minute goal from another incredible break out of defence from Micky van de Ven set the tone for a dominant performance. Micky read Marcus Rashford’s break down our left, intercepted and took off, driving through United’s back line before delivering the perfect cross for Brennan to tap home - his fourth goal in fourth games.
We created chance after chance until United’s task was made even tougher with a straight red card to skipper Bruno Fernandes for a lunge on James Maddison on 42 minutes.

Our game management was spot on against the 10 men after that and we scored an important second goal early in the second half as Deki Kulusevski provided a clever finish when Brennan’s cross was deflected. Dominic Solanke wrapped it up with his third goal in three games, sliding home from close range after two substitutes combined with their first touches - Lucas Bergvall’s corner flicked on by Pape Matar Sarr for Dominic to finish on a day to remember at the Theatre of Dreams.
“It was a great win, but an even better performance,” Ange told our Review Show from the tunnel at Old Trafford. “I thought the lads were outstanding today, from the first minute they were at it, really aggressive without the ball, positive with the ball, won our duels, aggressive in everything we did. I’m just super proud of the boys’ efforts.
“Their red card is a consequence of our dominance, we put them under so much pressure, they couldn’t really get out of their half. We probably should have been out of sight by that stage with the chances we had, but even after that, against 10 men, I still felt we controlled the game really well. There is no doubt we deserved that victory.”
It was put to Ange how well we managed the game with 11 against 10. “Yes, especially against Man United, even with 10 men, they post a danger,” he said. “They’ve always got the threat in transition, quick wingers, quick guys up front, even with 10 men you know you have to be really disciplined and concentrated. I thought we did that really well.”
Ange also gave an update on Destiny Udogie - replaced at half-time by Djed Spence – and Heung-Min Son, who missed the game with a hamstring injury picked up against Qarabag in midweek.
