Udogie shortlisted for Premier League's Young Player of the Season award

Thu 09 May 2024, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Destiny Udogie has been nominated for the Hublot Premier League's Young Player of the Season award for 2023/24.

Our first ever nominee for the award which was introduced by the Premier League in 2019, Destiny has enjoyed a barnstorming debut season in England's top flight as he has thrived as an inverted left full-back under Ange Postecoglou.

Initially signed from Udinese in the summer of 2022, the defender remained with the Italian outfit on loan for the 2022/23 before moving to north London permanently the following summer - and he hasn't looked back since.

Taking to the Premier League like a duck to water, the now 21-year-old has been one of our stars of the season. First and foremost a defender, the youngster has impressed at the back with his strength, pace and dogged determination making him a fierce competitor when it comes to duels - he sits in the top 10 of the Premier League in terms of the number of tackles he has made.

However, it has been in the final third where his qualities have seen him grab the headlines. Brilliant on the ball and always offering an option off it, the Italian continually manages to find his way into the opposition penalty area, always keen to get in on the act.

And that has seen him notably contribute to our goal output this season with the defender having been involved in five league goals for us (two scored, three assisted).

His fine form in England also saw him receive his first international call up and caps back in October, as he debuted for the Italy national team off the bench in a 4-0 win over Malta before starting for the Azzurri against England at Wembley later that month.

Sadly, his season was cut short last month after sustained an injury in training for which he required surgery on his quadricep. He is expected to return to the squad during pre-season training.

Also in the running for the award this year are Newcastle United's Alexander Isak, Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo, Arsenal pair Bukayo Saka and William Saliba as well as Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

As usual with Premier League awards, you can help Destiny to be named Young Player of the Season by voting for the defender via the link below. Voting is now open and will close at 12noon on Monday 13 May.
