Werner takes maiden Player of the Match award on home league debut

Timo Werner has been named our supporters' HSBC Player of the Match after his key role in our thrilling comeback win over Brentford on Wednesday.

Claiming his maiden Player of the Match award since his January loan move from RB Leipzig, Timo claimed 41 per cent of the vote in an exclusive poll on our official app straight after the game.

Making his home league debut against the Bees, it was clear from the first few minutes of the game that Timo was going to have a big influence on the direction of the game as his excellent positioning in the left channel saw him finding acres of space to work in.

And so it came to bear as, just three minutes into the second half, he made his mark, picking out Destiny Udogie in the box who tucked home to cancel out Neal Maupay's 15th-minute opener.

Then, just 72 seconds later, he came up with the goods once more as he beat his man down the left before crossing for Brennan Johnson to slide home as we turned the game on its head.
