Defender Luana Buhler was on the scoresheet for Switzerland as they ran out 3-1 winners over Turkey in the opening game of their UEFA Euro 2025 qualifying group.
Earning her 49th cap, the 27-year-old doubled her side’s advantage in the 52nd minute as she rose highest to a cross from the right-hand side and directed her header past the goalkeeper and, just a few minutes after scoring her goal, she was handed the captain’s armband after Ramona Bachmann was substituted.
A brace from Viola Calligrais either side of Luana's header secured the victory for Switzerland, despite the visitors netting a late consolation, and they face a trip to Azerbaijan on Tuesday 9 April (1pm UK) in the second game of their qualifying group.
That was Luana’s second goal for her country – her first senior international goal coming back in September, 2022, in a 15-0 win over Moldova.
