Romero shortlisted for October's Premier League Player of the Month award

Thu 02 November 2023, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Cristian Romero has been nominated for the EA SPORTS Premier League's Player of the Month award for October.

One of our vice captains, Cristian has enjoyed a stellar month in England's top flight, helping us to three wins out of three as well as two clean sheets.

A bastion of our backline, Cuti has built a formidable partnership in no time at all with newcomer Micky van de Ven and the pair nearly produced a perfect defensive month for us as, alongside their fellow defensive team-mates, we came just seconds away from going an entire month without conceding.

Having started with a resolute display against Luton as we won 1-0 at Kenilworth Road despite having just 10 men, we then produced a professional performance against Fulham to win 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a week ago on Monday. We then managed to overcome the stubborn low block of Crystal Palace on Friday to get ourselves into a 2-0 lead at Selhurst Park and looked to be on our way to delivering the perfect away performance and a third consecutive clean sheet, however a consolation goal from Jordan Ayew in stoppage time saw a blot on our copybook in south London.

In that win over the Eagles, the centre-back broke a Club Premier League record as he completed 141 passes - the most any Spurs player had completed in single game in the competitions since records began.

Cristian's nomination for the award makes it three months on the spin that a Spurs player has been shortlisted for the prize with James Maddison and Heung-Min Son being nominated for the August and September awards respectively - both went on to win the accolade. This is the first time that Cuti has been nominated for the award.

Our number 17, however, faces quite the fight to claim the award with Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz, Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, Wolves' Pedro Neto, Arsenal's Declan Rice and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah also in the running.

As usual though, you can show your support to Cristian by voting for him via the link below. That vote is now open and will close on Monday 6 November at 12noon.
