Stadium hosts another Saracens win

Sat 25 March 2023, 20:20|Tottenham Hotspur

Saracens beat London rivals Harlequins 36-24 to guarantee a home tie in the Gallagher Premiership play-offs on another all-action afternoon of rugby union at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Back in N17 once again for ‘The Showdown 3’ – a year after their debut at our world-famous venue – Sarries didn’t disappoint, storming into a 22-7 lead at the break before sealing the deal in the second half to move 11 points clear at the top of the table, leaving the visitors in eighth.

The free-flowing, high-octane affair was preceded by a spectacular pyrotechnic display that greeted the two teams and more than 55,000-strong crowd in attendance.

And the fireworks continued on the field as Spurs fan Alex Lozowski, Nick Tompkins and Andy Christie notched after Alex Dombrandt had barrelled over in the corner less than two minutes in to give Quins an early lead.

In-form Cadan Murley touched down twice either side of Sean Maitland’s try in the second period as the visitors tried to rally, but Maro Itoje put Sarries into a commanding position with Joe Marchant’s late effort merely a consolation.

Unfortunately, fly-half Owen Farrell limped off injured in the 70th minute, having kicked for 11 points to help his side to victory.
