Harry becomes England's all-time record goalscorer

Thu 23 March 2023, 23:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane has taken the mantle of England's all-time record goalscorer.

The Academy graduate who only recently became the Club's all-time goalscorer completed an incredible double milestone by converting a penalty in England's 2-1 victory against Italy in UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying on Thursday evening.

That made it 54 goals in 81 caps for the Three Lions, taking him ahead of Wayne Rooney's mark of 53. Rooney's record had stood since 2016 - Harry was on the pitch when he converted a penalty against Switzerland at Wembley to overtake Bobby Charlton's 49.

Just six months earlier, Harry netted his first England goal just 79 seconds after stepping off the bench to make his debut against Lithuania - 27 March, 2015.

There is strong Spurs representation in England's all-time goalscoring list. Harry is joined in the top 10 by our former strikers Gary Lineker, Jimmy Greaves and Vivian Woodward, whose record stood for 47 years before being toppled by Tom Finney in 1958.
