Sandro on Porro - “I feel happy when good players sign for MY club!”

Wed 01 February 2023, 17:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Sandro believes new signing Pedro Porro will be a great asset for the team.

A cult hero for us having enjoyed four memorable years in north London between 2010 and 2014, Sandro was delighted to see Pedro make the move from Sporting CP to Hotspur Way on Tuesday (31st January) – especially having witnessed the full-back's growth and development first-hand in the twilight years of his playing career.

Having departed our doors for QPR almost a decade ago, Sandro later had stints in Turkey, Italy and back home in his native Brazil before he signed for Primeira Liga side and city neighbours of Porro's Sporting, Belenenses, in 2021.

Unfortunately, the former Brazil international was unavailable for the two games in which Sporting and Belenenses came head-to-head, and thus never came up against the 23-year-old, but he was watching on as the Spain international got on the scoresheet in the latter of those two clashes - a 4-1 win for the Leões. He was also in attendance to see the defender in action as he lined up against us at the Jose Alvalade Stadium in September, as we fell 2-0 late on to Sporting in the Champions League group stages.

He’s fast, he drives forward, he can dribble. He can help at the back and start the attacking action very well

Now though, with Pedro now adorning the famous lilywhite, the colours of, as Sandro emphasises, his Club, he can’t wait to see him show his quality in the Premier League.

“I have to say, when Spurs played Sporting in Lisbon, I was in the stadium. I saw this guy, he’s an amazing player,” the now 33-year-old smiled. “I’ve watched him a lot, and we played against him here last season. Against Tottenham, I thought, ‘wow, he’s playing well, he can be a great player’. I’m happy for him to come to Spurs. I think he can help us and do very, very well in the Premier League.

“He’s fast, he drives forward, he can dribble. He can help at the back and start the attacking action very well. He can also finish the attacking action, lots of assists, lots of goals. Going forward… man, he’s quick! I feel happy when good players sign for MY club!”
