It is ‘down to us’ to find consistency – Romero

Tue 21 February 2023, 17:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Consistency is the word on Cristian Romero’s mind as we look to build on our 2-0 win against West Ham on Sunday.

Despite a slow start in the first-half, a much-improved performance after the break, in which Emerson Royal and Heung-Min Son hit the target, helped us get back to winning ways in the Premier League and, notably, lifted us back into the top four.

However, having endured a mixed bag of league results so far in February – a 1-0 win over Manchester City, followed by a 4-1 defeat to Leicester before the triumph over the Hammers – if we are to keep our position in the league table, we will need to find consistency.

That is something 'Cuti' highlighted as he reflected on our recent run at full-time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, and he feels we now need to look within ourselves to deliver that.

“We need to focus on ourselves. After a big win against Manchester City, we dropped off against Leicester City,” the Argentina international said following the victory over the Irons.

If we can keep winning and performing as we did against West Ham, we can call on that in difficult matches. It’s all down to us

As we strive for more consistency in our performances with a busy and challenging schedule ahead – starting with an ever-fiercely contested clash with Chelsea in N17 on Sunday – Cristian knows every player will have to play their part as we continue to fight in three competitions.

So, given the run ahead, the loss of Rodrigo Bentancur to injury was, of course, a huge blow to the squad and was one that was felt strongly by Cuti given their close friendship.

“We all miss him a lot. It’s a big loss for the time being but we know the player that he is,” said the 24-year-old.

“Right now, it’s hard, but we’re looking forward to having him back and contributing for us again. We need to prepare well going forward but, in the meantime, we wish him a speedy recovery and that he’s back soon.”
