Royal’s support for Richarlison | Matchday programme exclusive

Emerson Royal has backed has compatriot and good friend Richarlison to continue his recent fine form as we prepare to face the Brazilian forward’s former club this weekend.

Versatile defender Emerson could return to the side for the visit of the Toffees having already featured in the right-back, centre-back and left-back positions for us this season. But, whether he makes the starting XI or takes a place on the bench, Emerson will be hoping for more goals from his team-mate for club and country.

Richy recently returned to action after undergoing groin surgery and has netted three goals in his previous two matches, scoring a brace in our 4-1 defeat of Newcastle United before opening the scoring with a brave header in last Friday’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Speaking in the matchday programme for today’s clash with Everton, Emerson admits he’s delighted to see Richy back on the scoresheet and playing with a smile on his face again.

“Richy is a top player at the top level. I’ve known him from before with the national team and remember him at Everton, he has always scored goals and always fights for the win in every game,” said Emerson.

“I’m very happy for him because he was finding it difficult with his injury, playing in pain, but now his confidence is back, he’s scoring goals and I hope he continues to do this for us.”
