Spurs vs Shakhtar Donetsk – how to watch, team news, kit colours, key information

Sat 05 August 2023, 19:06|Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou takes charge of his first home game as our Head Coach on Sunday as we play host to Shakhtar Donetsk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (kick-off 2pm UK).

The clash against the 14-time Ukrainian champions will see the Club raise funds for Shakhtar’s charitable foundation, Shakhtar Social, in support of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine as a result of the armed conflict with Russia.

With many fans looking forward to a return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time since the end of last season, here’s all you need to know about the game...

How can I watch the game?

As with all of our men’s first team pre-season friendlies this summer, you’ll be able to watch live coverage of Sunday’s match against Shakhtar Donetsk on SPURSPLAY*, our exclusive live and on-demand video service. Kick-off is at 2pm UK time.

You can also follow all the action via our Match Centre here on tottenhamhotspur.com and the Spurs Official app, where you’ll find live text updates, images and much more.

Video highlights will be available on SPURSPLAY after the game.

What is the team news?

Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon, Fraser Forster, Bryan Gil and Alfie Whiteman are all sidelined for us.

Ange told SPURSPLAY: “Health-wise, we’ve a couple of players with niggles, but the majority of the squad is in good shape. We’ve had a good, solid week’s work since we’ve been back (from our pre-season tour) and because of that, they’re getting stronger and stronger. So, apart from a couple of minor ones, plus the longer-term ones like Rodrigo, everyone else is in good shape.”

New signings Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Manor Solomon – plus Destiny Udogie, who signed for us last summer and spent the 2022/23 campaign back on loan at Udinese – could all make their home debuts on Sunday.

Heorgiy Sudakov (appendicitis), Ivan Petryak (ankle) and Valeriy Bondar (collarbone) all miss out for Shakhtar.

What colours will the teams be playing in?

Our brand new 2023/24 home kit will get a first run-out at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

That means we’ll be in a full Lilywhite strip, with our goalkeeper in light blue.

Shakhtar Donetsk will arrive in orange and black striped shirts with black shorts and black socks, with their keeper in red.

What will the weather conditions be like?

There’ll be light cloud and a moderate breeze with a chance of rain in north London on Sunday, with temperatures at around 18 degrees.
