Cliff's pride at grandson Matt's return to Club

Club legend Cliff Jones has shared his delight at seeing his grandson Matt Wells return to the Club.

Matt, who initially emerged through our Academy in the mid-2000s before returning to our youth system as a coach in the mid-2010s, was announced as our new Acting Assistant Head Coach on Tuesday afternoon, joining Ryan Mason's coaching staff.

Having seen his playing career ended by injury at the age of just 20, the former midfielder soon moved into coaching before linking up with our Academy where he served as Assistant Coach to the late Ugo Ehiogu and Scott Parker with our Development Squad and Under-18s respectively, before he then became our Under-18s coach ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Leading our youngsters until March, 2019, when he joined Parker in a first team role at Fulham, Matt lost just two of his 28 games in charge in all competitions - a run which saw us score four or more goals in 10 different games, including a 9-0 win away at West Ham and a 7-0 home triumph over Norwich.

Our former Academy man has since earned further coaching experience at AFC Bournemouth where, like at Fulham, he worked alongside Parker to earn promotion to the Premier League. Now back at Hotspur Way, Cliff, who is our fifth highest of all time with 159 goals in 378 appearances and won five major honours with us, including the 1960/61 Double, has expressed his pride at his grandson's appointment via social media.

Writing on his official Twitter account, the former Welsh international said, "So proud my grandson Matt Wells has returned to @SpursOfficial to assist @RyanMason with first team coaching.

"Let’s get behind their efforts to finish the season well & give our loyal supporters something to cheer about."
