Antonio Conte on Marseille, a year at Spurs, and Liverpool

Sat 05 November 2022, 15:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Looking back at our fine win against Olympique de Marseille to top our group in the UEFA Champions League, and on a year at Spurs, Antonio Conte once again alluded to the importance of our fans at home as we take on Liverpool in a key clash in the Premier League on Sunday (4.30pm).

Speaking to SPURSPLAY on Friday, here's what he had to say...

Antonio on... Marseille

"For sure, we must be very proud, especially for the situation we've faced for the last month. People forget injuries, forget the difficulty to win away in Europe, so we must be proud. At the same time, the players know the first half wasn't so good. I was a player, and you can try to manage the situation. This is the negative. The positive is that after losing a big player like Sonny in the first half, we faced it in a fantastic way, we played another game in terms of intensity, bravery and for the chances we created, we deserved to go through to the next round, a big achievement."

I'm starting to feel the people who work here, their sense of belonging for the Club, and this is very important

Antonio on... a year at Spurs

"There have been lots of positives. We've improved a lot, in many things. Now, there is a clear vision, a path to follow. In one year, with the Club all together, I think we made not so many mistakes, maybe it's better to say it this way, not be presumptuous. We still need time and patience, it's not easy to win in England. I'm really proud of the work we did together. I feel to stay in a family, and I'm starting to feel the people who work here, their sense of belonging for the Club, and this is very important."

Antonio on... Liverpool

"You are talking about the big rivals of Manchester City over the past five years. Klopp has been there for seven years, and Liverpool has to be a big example for clubs who want to bring something important, to have patience. They did a fantastic job, and Jurgen is one of the best coaches in the world. It will be a pleasure to shake his hand again. I repeat, every game is tough, for us, for other teams. This is the 11th game we play in 36 days (since 1 October), the players are tired. I'm sure the atmosphere will be amazing. For this reason, we have to ready to play an important game. As you know well, our fans will play an important part in this game."
