Skippy and Harvey on Posh win and valuable mid-season minutes

Thu 15 December 2022, 15:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Oliver Skipp and Harvey White have spoken about the importance of taking advantage of the mid-season minutes on offer with impressive performances in our matches against Motherwell and Peterborough United in the last week.

Both started the games at Hotspur Way - a 4-0 win against Scottish Premier League side The Well last Friday followed by a 3-1 win against Posh’s Under-21s in freezing conditions on Wednesday.

Skippy, who returned from a nine-month injury absence in October, racked up 80 minutes against Posh and told us: “It’s always nice to get minutes after nearly a month without a game, really important and we’ve treated the games in the right way, a good couple of performances, and they’ve been good in terms of getting back into the rhythm of playing matches.

“This season is a bit of a weird one (in terms of the break for the World Cup) as usually you don’t get this opportunity halfway through the season, by Christmas, there have been loads of games, but this has been a bit different. It’s nice to have a reset, clear the mind a bit and get ready for the second half of the season.”

Asked how he felt after such a long spell out, Skippy added: “I feel fine, no problems.”

Harvey, in numerous matchday squads this season, played in an unfamiliar central striking role in both matches with Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Richarlison all on World Cup duty.

Playing between Dejan Kulusevski and Bryan Gil, Harvey’s displays were rewarded with the opening goal against Posh, a tidy finish from close range after Davinson Sanchez flicked on Deki’s corner.

He said: “It’s good to get minutes in the tank and nice to get on the scoresheet. It doesn’t happen that often! But when I got the chance, I wanted to be as clinical as possible.

“It’s a different role, but in many ways it’s like playing as a holding midfielder, my usual position. The passing patterns are similar, one-two touch, everything I’m used to, and then playing with Deki and Bryan, that’s been great, we’re all on the same wavelength.”
