Deki: “Sonny’s been fantastic, but I think Brazil edge it tonight”

Mon 05 December 2022, 16:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Like all Spurs fans, Dejan Kulusevski will be glued to the TV as his friends and team-mates Richarlison and Heung-Min Son spearhead the attacks of Brazil and Korea respectively in a World Cup shoot-out in Qatar this evening (7pm).

It’s been quite a tournament for the pair so far. Few will argue that Richy has scored best goal – his spectacular volley against Serbia in the group stage – while Sonny’s pure emotion after helping Korea through to the knockout phase for the first time since 2010 was a sight to behold, his 90-yard run and pass setting up a dramatic late winner against Portugal to take them through.

As a fellow member of our forward line, Deki knows the pair inside-out, and he was happy to give his thoughts on the Round of 16 clash at Stadium 974, Ras Abu Aboud later tonight.

“I think it’s going to be 1-0, Brazil,” said Deki before Monday’s training session at Hotspur Way. “I’ve watched Sonny, watched Korea and they are strong, they play with a lot of energy, but I think Brazil is the favourite to win.

“I had to write to Sonny after the Portugal game, because I was so happy seeing that assist, it was fantastic, perfect timing. He was fantastic and that emotion, that’s what football is all about.

“Richy’s volley against Serbia, it has to be the best goal in the tournament. We’ll have to see what’s in store tonight. You never know, maybe Sonny scores twice and Korea win 2-0 you just don’t know, but I think Brazil will edge it. I’m looking forward to watching it later.”
