Darren Anderton on Kulusevski: “He’s got everything”
Tue 09 August 2022, 14:30|Tottenham Hotspur
Darren Anderton watched Dejan Kulusevski live for the first time on Saturday - and safe to say, he left quite an impression!
Our legendary former midfielder is currently visiting the UK from his new home in the States and was at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for our 4-1 victory against Southampton on the Premier League’s opening day.
‘Deki’ provided the cross for Ryan Sessegnon’s equaliser in the first half before capping a fine display with a cool, calm finish for 4-1 after the break. That took the Sweden international up to six goals and nine assists in his 19 appearances in the Premier League since joining us from Juventus in January.
“I love him. He’s different class, isn’t he?” said Darren, who made 299 appearances for us in the Premier League, 1992-2004, scoring 34 goals and registering 67 assists. “I watched him closely and he’s unbelievable. What a talent.
“He glides past players. He’s deceptive, I suppose, in his speed, the way he drops his shoulder, he gives himself that yard of space. He doesn’t beat a player three times, he’s looking for an angle to get the ball into the box and Harry Kane and the forwards will love that. That’s why myself and Teddy Sheringham clicked so well - he knew whenever I had the ball, I was looking for a yard to whip in a cross and he could make his runs off that. You see those similarities.
“He seems like a clever footballer as well. I think he’s got everything. He’s a good passer of the ball and his finishing is different class. For me, he was the best player on the pitch at the weekend, and it’s not the first time that’s happened. It’s great we’ve got him, and I just hope he goes on to have a wonderful time at the Club.”
Coming tomorrow - Five minutes with... Darren Anderton...
