Sonny breaks into Club's all-time top 10 goalscoring list after hat-trick at Villa

Sun 10 April 2022, 09:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Heung-Min Son's hat-trick in our 4-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday evening has taken him into the Club's all-time top 10 goalscoring list.

The treble - his third matchball at Spurs, following his first in the FA Cup against Millwall (March, 2017) and his four-goal show at Southampton last season (September, 2020) - lifted him over all-time greats Robbie Keane (122 goals) and Teddy Sheringham (124) and into 10th place on the list. Alan Gilzean (133) will be next in his sights.

Sonny was clinical as we rode out the storm in the first half before running away with it at Villa Park. The South Korean star drilled home a volley off the post to open the scoring in the third minute but Villa put us under pressure for the rest of the half, Hugo Lloris producing a number of top-drawer saves to keep our lead intact.

The game changed once Dejan Kulusevski made it 2-0 early in the second half and Sonny was there to finish from Harry Kane's flick for 3-0 and then fired in off the post again for 4-0 after a sweeping move the length of the pitch.
