Mind Series raises thousands to support better mental health

Thu 02 September 2021, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

We are proud to announce that a grand total of £228,064 has been raised by fans of Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea from The Mind Series.

During August, the three clubs played each other in a first-of-its-kind series of pre-season friendlies to support better mental health and raise vital funds for Mind, the UK’s leading mental health charity.

A percentage of proceeds raised from ticket and live stream sales has now been donated to Mind and the respective Club Foundations, that each deliver projects to support mental health and wellbeing in communities both at home and overseas, with Mind receiving over a quarter-of-a-million pounds.

To promote The Mind Series, Men’s first team defender Ben Davies and Women’s first team goalkeeper Becky Spencer, met local residents from the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Shape Up With Spurs programme to talk about the importance of physical activity on mental health and wellbeing.

In addition, players from all three clubs took part in video calls with young fans that currently use Mind services.

Paul Farmer, Chief Executive of Mind, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the level of support shown by the fans, players and staff alike over the course of The Mind Series. We know how powerful a platform football can be to create change and having the backing of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to help us put a spotlight on mental health has been invaluable. Alongside the awareness raised, the Series has also surpassed all our expectations in the amount of funds it has raised for our vital local and national services.

“At a national level, funds raised will help support our Infoline and other advice services which have been inundated with enquiries since the pandemic began. At a local level proceeds from The Mind Series will help support the work of Mind in Haringey, Islington Mind, as well as Hammersmith & Fulham, Ealing & Hounslow Mind, to support the mental health of local communities in partnership with the clubs’ respective Foundations. We would like to thank the fans once again for their generous support and say that whoever you support, Mind is here to support you.”

Tottenham Hotspur is dedicated to ensuring that mental wellbeing is prioritised at all levels throughout the Club. We are currently recruiting a Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing manager to ensure that both boys and girls academy footballers have access to mental health and wellbeing education.

We should like to take this opportunity to thank our fans for their support of The Mind Series.
