Women's Euro 2022 nations discover opponents

Thu 28 October 2021, 18:06|Tottenham Hotspur

The draw for the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 finals took place in Manchester this afternoon (Thursday 28 October).

Of our women’s first team squad, goalkeeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela was paying particularly close attention as her Finland side found out their group stage opponents for next summer’s tournament.

They’ve been placed in Group B, where they’ll be up against Germany, Denmark and Spain.

Tinni clocked up her 100th appearance for Finland against Georgia last week and will be hoping to enjoy a good run in the competition when it’s held across 12 cities in England next July.

Maeva Clemaron’s France, meanwhile, have been drawn in Group D along with Italy, Belgium and Iceland.

Midfielder Maeva has won five senior caps for her nation to date and was part of their squad for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Hosts England, for whom Chioma Ubogagu has previously been capped on three occasions with a number of our talented young players no doubt looking to earn future call-ups, will kick off the tournament against Austria at Old Trafford on 6 July before also facing Norway and Northern Ireland in Group A.

The final of the competition, delayed by a year due to the pandemic, takes place at Wembley on 31 July.
