Etete up for Premier League 2 Player of the Month

Mon 08 February 2021, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Striker Kion Etete has been nominated for January’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

The 19-year-old front man has led the line for our Under-23s for the majority of the campaign and his performances over the last few weeks have been recognised with a place on the seven-man shortlist for the division’s monthly prize.

We remained unbeaten in the competition throughout January, taking seven points from a possible nine, with Kion registering a goal and an assist in our superb 5-1 win at Brighton in our first game of the New Year.

He followed that up with a solid performance in a 2-1 win at West Ham a week later, before scoring the crucial equaliser as we battled back from behind to draw 1-1 at home to Arsenal on 29 January.

Kion is joined on the shortlist by Folarin Balogun (Arsenal), Louie Barry (Aston Villa), Ethan Bristow (Reading), Rhys Hughes (Everton), Joe Hugill (Manchester United) and Jacob Wakeling (Leicester City).

The shortlist was determined by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel after club coaches nominated the best performance by an opposition player in each of their league matches during last month. The panel will also decide the winner.

Our Under-23s are currently joint-top of the Premier League 2 table with both Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers, all on 25 points, although both other teams have games in hand.
