Tottenham HotspurAntonio Conte highlighted our intensity and defensive display in the face of Brentford’s aerial threat as we ran out 2-0 winners in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening.
Sergi Canos headed into his own net under pressure from Ben Davies after 12 minutes and Heung-Min Son tapped home Sergio Reguilon’s cross after a superb counter-attack on 65 minutes to secure the points. You felt we were always in control and defended stoutly as the ball came into our box from all angles in the latter stages. Hugo Lloris particularly caught the eye with a series of clearing punches as we held firm.
“Congratulations to the players,” said Antonio. “It was a good win against a very dangerous team, well organised, very strong on set pieces and throw-ins, where anything can happen. They are strong, very tall, but I’m satisfied because defensively, we also showed great attention. It was good. Hugo showed great personality in those circumstances.
“We performed well, with great desire to get three points, to finish with a clean sheet, always important. We missed chances to improve the final result, but it’s important to create chances and I think we’re going to improve in our performance and the danger (we create) in the opponents’ box.
“So, lots of positives, but as I said, now we enjoy until midnight, after midnight, one second, we have to think about Sunday (Norwich at home, 2pm), another important game for us. We have to try to get three points. We have to try to rest and prepare for another tough game against a team that played two days ago.”
Antonio particularly enjoyed the second goal, a quick break that saw Davinson play up to Sonny, who touched into Harry Kane, Harry picked out Sergio’s dart down the left and Sergio rolled across goal for Sonny to slot home.
“It was great, great,” said Antonio. “For the second goal, the players showed me the quality they have. Harry received the ball and made the pass for Sergio, and then the cross for Son.
“This team has good quality and it’s very important to take confidence, and to understand very well what I want with the ball. With our possession, I want to put pressure on the opponent and play with high intensity, this is the only way if we want to have satisfaction in the future.”
