Harry equals Steve Perryman’s Euro mark, 50 up for Sonny

Fri 27 August 2021, 08:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane has equalled legendary former captain Steve Perryman’s record appearance mark in European competition for the Club.

The striker led the team out for our UEFA Europa Conference League play-off, second leg against Pacos de Ferreira at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening. That was his 64th match for us in Europe - 24 in the Champions League, 40 in Europa League/Conference - matching twice UEFA Cup winner Steve’s total. Hugo Lloris is just one adrift on 63.

Harry took less than 10 minutes to make his mark and scored twice inside 35 minutes to turn the tie around after we’d lost the first leg 1-0 in Portugal. Giovani Lo Celso’s free-kick was glanced into his own net by Antunes in the second half, securing a 3-0 win on the night and 3-1 win on aggregate, taking us into today’s (12.30pm) draw for the group stage.

Already our all-time record goalscorer in Europe, that double took Harry to 40 goals, the first Spur to reach that mark for the Club in European competition.

Meanwhile, Heung-Min Son became only the eighth player to reach the 50-appearance milestone in Europe for the Club when he came off the bench last night. One of those eight players is Ben Davies, who is now up to 54. Dele (47) and Eric Dier (46) are just behind. Sonny is also one of only four players to score 20-plus goals for us in Europe with 21 to date.
