Jose Mourinho was always confident the team would deliver against West Ham.

Described as a must-win game beforehand, there could be few arguments as an own goal from Tomas Soucek and Harry Kane’s clinical one-on-one saw us home 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

We certainly had the run of it in terms of possession and chances but, as always, West Ham proved a tough nut to crack.

Having seen Heung-Min Son’s goal disallowed in the first half and Lukasz Fabianski deny Lucas Moura and Harry, twice, with Harry, Dele and Eric Dier also all going close, it took an own goal from Soucek to break the deadlock just after the hour.

In the first half it took us some time to get into the game. Then in the last part of the first half we started creating.

The game opened up after that, Jarrod Bowen struck the post with West Ham’s best chance and it was left to Harry to mark his 200th Premier League appearance for the Club with his 137th top-flight goal to wrap it up eight minutes from time, racing onto Son’s pass and finishing clinically one-on-one.

Jose said: “It was deserved, not an amazing match, but it’s very difficult to play amazing in this period. We were consistent, always under control and we always had the feeling of ‘we are going to win this game.’

“But not easy. West Ham defend well, compact. In the first half it took us some time to get into the game. Then in the last part of the first half we started creating. We scored through Sonny’s disallowed goal, we almost scored by Lucas.

“Then we started the second half with that same intensity and the goal had to arrive. It’s an important victory for us, three points, and a must-win if we wanted to dream of something great. We had to win this game.”
